Well, you’d think that by the time you’re in your mid-twenties and married, you’d know the answer to that question. But...well, let’s just say I don’t. Not yet, anyway. I’m so many different things, and I’m not sure how they come together to define me. Just one example of the paradoxical nature of my personality: I have a big problem with heights (read: I’m afraid of them), but I love rock climbing. Hm. But I do know some things about me. For instance...
I am a vegetarian, and I became one before I really understood how the lifestyle is completely in line with my views on the treatment of livestock, of the environment, or my own body. But out of that has sprung the intense lifestyle change that Mike and I are working our way through as we discover what it means to “go green” and try to live according to the outdoorsman’s “leave no trace” philosophy. Reducing our footprint
or what have you. I got rid of my car before I moved to Ohio, and
now my annual transportation costs (airfare to California aside) will
be a total of $36 a year thanks to my student bus fare. I’m becoming
a bigger and bigger fan of riding my bike from place to place, as the
nation slowly catches on and realizes that biking can be a viable form
of transportation in addition to being a recreational pastime. In
other words, I’m turning into a tree hugger (said with pride).
I am a wife now, too. It’s new. It’s incredible. Mike’s amazing, and I
am excited about our future together. You’d think that after nearly a
decade together, I’d be used to the guy, but he still surprises me and
pushes me to push myself. And little by little I’m learning how to
relax, to stop and take a deep breath, to
enjoy life even when I have a lot on my
plate. If you know me, you know what
kind of accomplishment that is. :)
I am a teacher, even if I’m not employed
as one right now. I love to help people see
things in a new light, understand a new
concept, learn a new tidbit. It’s too great
to give up. I can’t wait to be a teacher by
profession again when I have my PhD.
